Patagioenas plumbea occurs in much of the tropical South America, from Colombia to Uruguay. This species inhabits humid tropical and subtropical forests (including second growth), and cloud forests; up to 2,100 m. Seasonal altitudinal migrations in highest parts of the range. A large (ca. 34 cm in length, weight 170–230 g) long-tailed pigeon. The plumage is mainly leaden-gray with pinkish tinge. It feeds in the forest canopy on fruit and seeds; occasionally descends to the ground. Common, but surprisingly little known.
